Our client is a leading Civil Engineering and Groundworks contractor based in Leicester, specializing in residential developments for some of the UK's top house builders. The company provides a broad range of services, including groundworks, roads, sewers, infrastructure, and Section 278 works. The Assistant Design Engineer will support the design and planning of civil engineering projects, primarily in the residential sector. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of relevant experience on-site or in design, a solid understanding of civil engineering principles, and a strong desire to develop new skills in the design field. Key Responsibilities: - Assist in the preparation of design calculations, drawings, and reports for various civil engineering projects, including groundworks, infrastructure, roads, sewers, and Section 278 works.
- Work closely with senior engineers and project managers to ensure the design meets client specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Support the design process by liaising with site teams and ensuring that design solutions are both practical and cost-effective.
- Assist with the preparation of design proposals, tender documents, and design reviews.
- Undertake site visits to gain an understanding of the practical application of designs and to monitor progress.
- Provide technical assistance during construction stages to ensure the design is accurately implemented.
- Contribute to maintaining design records and ensure that all work complies with relevant standards, regulations, and company policies.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth project execution and delivery.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience working in a civil engineering environment (on-site or in design).
- Solid understanding of civil engineering principles and practices, particularly within the residential sector.
- Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, Civils 3D, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and health and safety guidelines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- A proactive approach to learning and development, with a genuine desire to build a career in design.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- A Qualification in Civil Engineering (or currently studying towards one) would be advantageous.
