My client is a well-established and respected civil engineering and groundworks contractor based in Yorkshire. We deliver high-quality infrastructure, groundworks, and drainage solutions to some of the UK’s leading national housebuilders, as well as  industrial and commercial clients. With a strong pipeline of residential and industrial projects across the region, they looking to expand our commercial team with the addition of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.

Role Overview:
The company are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial and contractual aspects of a range of groundwork and infrastructure schemes. Reporting to the Senior QS or Commercial Manager, you’ll work on projects from pre-construction through to final account, helping to ensure delivery is commercially successful, on time, and to budget.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the preparation of bills of quantities, take-offs, and material schedules
  • Support the preparation and submission of valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Monitor project costs, cash flow, and budget performance
  • Work closely with site teams and subcontractors to track work progress and variations
  • Attend site visits, project meetings, and liaise with clients and other stakeholders
  • Support procurement activities, including subcontractor enquiries and comparisons
  • Maintain accurate records, contractual correspondence, and cost databases
  • Assist in identifying value engineering opportunities and cost-saving measures
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions

Requirements:
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or related construction/commercial discipline
  • Minimum 1–2 years' experience in a QS or AQS role (civil engineering or groundworks preferred)
  • Good understanding of construction contracts (NEC, JCT, etc.)
  • Strong numerical and commercial awareness
  • Good communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • IT literate – particularly with Microsoft Excel and measurement software
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across Yorkshire
  • Enthusiasm to progress within a growing business
