Job Summary

The Building Automation Systems Instrumentation Technician, reporting to the Building Automation Operations Manager, is responsible for handling project work, maintenance, and service requests. Under the direction of the Building Automation Operations Manager, Project Managers, Service Coordinators, and Administrative support, the Technician will play a critical role in fulfilling contracts, completing projects, and delivering exceptional service to clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety Policies
  • Conduct assessments of both new and existing systems and equipment
  • Perform take-offs and support the preparation of quotes
  • Set up, start, and troubleshoot network systems (IP, RS-485, etc.)
  • Conduct point-to-point I/O verifications
  • Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot system functions
  • Develop and implement graphical user interfaces (GUIs)
  • Document and organize commissioning processes
  • Submit detailed commissioning reports
  • Carry out wiring checkouts and automation start-ups using provided software and tools
  • Make necessary adjustments and calibrations
  • Operate and configure PC workstations, user interfaces, and IP network devices
  • Troubleshoot software and hardware issues
  • Maintain daily, weekly, or monthly logs and reports as needed
  • Participate in training to develop job-related skills
  • Assist in training other team members when directed
  • Follow schedules set by Service Coordinators
  • Respond to emergencies, including after-hours calls as needed
  • Ensure work areas are left in a clean, orderly, and safe condition
  • Report any issues affecting customer or employee relations to the supervisor

Required Qualifications
  • College Diploma in Electromechanical Engineering Technology or related field
  • Experience with:
    • Building Automation Systems
    • IP Networking
    • Low-voltage control systems
    • Mechanical and HVAC systems
    • Electromechanical devices
    • Pneumatic Control systems
  • Familiarity with programming tools such as:
    • Niagara Workbench
    • Schneider Electric EcoStruxure
    • FinBuilder
    • Honeywell Spyder Tools
    • Johnson Controls PCT
    • American Automatrix Engineering Centre
    • Distech Controls GFX
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new software and user interfaces
  • Proficiency with general computer operations
