Job Title: Civil Estimator
Location: Vancouver, BC
The Estimator must have extensive civil construction experience and a demonstrated track record of pursuing and leading estimates on various infrastructure projects. The individual will take a lead role to coordinate total estimating effort relevant to a particular bid/project assigned.
Responsibilities: - Reviews tender documents, specifications, drawings, and attends pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and effort for estimating.
- Provides productivity analyses for various scopes of work for estimate preparation.
- Organizes estimating teams to prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine cost effectiveness of projects to be bid.
- Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates.
- Leads prequalification and proposal based tendering opportunities.
- Leads pre-construction handover meetings to review project scope with project delivery team.
- Prepares take-offs and calculates material quantities as required.
- Follows awarded contracts as assigned to assist with extra work items, change orders, or re-pricing due to design changes.
- Maintains files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current/accurate information on prices from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Evaluates trade quotes and proposals and prepares quote comparison sheets to determine best value.
- Participates in estimate close-out and submissions.
- Completes post-bid analyses as required on jobs bid.
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Construction.
Qualifications & Skills: - A minimum of 10 years’ experience in civil construction of various infrastructure projects such as earthworks, roadbuilding, excavation & shoring, sewer, water and underground utilities.
- Must possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, both verbal and written with superior interpersonal, relationship and organizational management skills.
- Must be approachable and capable of working efficiently with an open-door policy.
- Possess a demonstrated ability to lead and direct projects, analyze issues, and bring innovative solutions to achieving work plan objectives.
- Must be people oriented with an ability to establish a high degree of credibility with staff and clients.
- Proficient with software such as HCSS Suite, B2W, Bluebeam, Agtek, Spectrum, Microsoft Project, Adobe, and all Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of unionized labor environment an asset.
- Valid Driver’s License Required.
- Post secondary education with a degree in construction management, civil or structural engineering preferred.
