- Maintains and oversees the execution of the SafeRing program
- Maintains and oversees the execution of the Environmental program
- Develops and implements project-specific safety programs
- Manages the comprehensive Return to Work (RTW) program
- Meets and establishes relationships with clients. Reviews their safety and environmental programs and procedures to ensure program compliance.
- Oversees the execution of subcontractor health and safety programs. Maintain subcontractor accountability to relevant legislation as well as the business and client expectations.
- Respond to site-specific risk management/health, safety or environmental-related concerns
- Develops and facilitates execution of company health, safety and environmental training programs
- Thoroughly investigates incidents/accidents and supports project management teams through the investigation process, including implementation of follow-up action plans
- Tracks and monitors trends in incident/accident reports and develops strategies for prevention
- Interfaces with regulatory agencies and audits project site compliance with environmental protection requirements
- Ensures safety documentation/reports are accurate, complete and filed with the appropriate regulatory agency and/or appropriate insurance provider
- Chairs committees and meetings in the organization on safety issues
Required Skills Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) Competencies - Read and interpret relevant occupational health and safety legislation, company policy and procedures.
- Establish clear safety expectations for all on the project site, including subcontractors and visitors and assign safety responsibility to site personnel
- Write and/or delegate responsibility for drafting project-specific safety plans and technical safety memos consistent with company or project policies or procedures.
- Generate summary reports of health and safety trending and communicate findings (verbally and/or in writing) of reports to Senior Management.
- Accurately interpret complex safety observation data to determine project trending (positive or negative). Take appropriate action to reinforce or combat trending.
- Host project safety meetings with clients, subcontractors and self-perform workers to communicate expectations and current status of the HSMS implementation.
- Understand the technical training requirements for operations specific to the project and ensure workers are provided instruction prior to executing tasks.
- Interpret client health and safety requirements and incorporate into drafted project-specific health and safety plans
- Organize and coordinate the execution of company and project-level training programs to ensure compliance with legislative and company requirements.
- Perform compliance audits and COR audits in accordance with published guidelines and generate action plans. Communicate in public settings the findings of such audits.
- Communicate subcontractor safety conformance expectations to project management and hold subcontractors accountable to expectations.
- Speak in public settings to conduct training or communicate key safety messages.
Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent plus 5 - 8 years related experience.
- CRSP preferred
Salary - $115,000 - $145,000 + package
