Job Title: Intermediate Estimator - ICI Construction
Location: Greater Toronto Area
Job Summary:
My client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Intermediate Estimator with strong local expertise in ICI (Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional) Construction. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience working with a general contractor, contributing to the planning, costing, and project management phases. This role involves providing accurate cost estimations, supporting pre-construction efforts, and working closely with project teams to help drive successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities:
1. Estimating and Cost Analysis:
- Prepare accurate estimates and budgets for ICI construction projects, including quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and unit pricing.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids, ensuring competitiveness and compliance with project requirements.
- Develop project cost forecasts and update estimates throughout various stages of project progression.
2. Project Coordination and Support:
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project scope, design, and specifications.
- Assist in bid proposal preparation, RFI documentation, and tender submissions.
- Support project teams with cost-related analysis and recommendations during the pre-construction phase.
3. Risk Management and Value Engineering:
- Identify potential project risks and propose cost-effective solutions.
- Conduct value engineering exercises to optimize project costs without compromising quality or functionality.
4. Market Research and Vendor Relationships:
- Maintain and develop relationships with local subcontractors, suppliers, and other industry professionals.
- Stay up-to-date with local market trends, costs, and best practices, ensuring estimates reflect current industry standards.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed, well-organized estimate reports and support the project team in documenting pricing decisions.
- Track and analyze post-project costs for continuous improvement of estimating practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in estimating within ICI construction, with a minimum of 2 years of experience working directly with a general contractor in the local market.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, PlanSwift).
- Strong understanding of ICI project costs, materials, labor rates, and local market conditions.
- Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to work cross-functionally with project teams, subcontractors, and clients.
- Additional Requirements:
- Familiarity with local building codes and regulations.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
