About the Role: Our client is seeking a Senior Civil Estimator or Intermediate Estimator to join their utility company in Vancouver. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in civil and utility infrastructure estimating. You will play a key role in preparing accurate and competitive bids for projects, ensuring profitability and long-term success.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, focusing on underground utilities (water, sewer, hydro, telecom).
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope.
  • Obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring competitive and accurate cost projections.
  • Develop and maintain unit pricing databases and cost records.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to refine estimates and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Participate in bid submissions, negotiations, and contract reviews.
  • Monitor project budgets and assist in cost control during execution.
  • Stay updated on market trends, labour costs, material pricing, and industry regulations.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in civil construction estimating, preferably in utilities.
  • Strong knowledge of earthworks, trenching, pipework, and municipal utility projects.
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, PlanSwift, Excel).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience working with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Familiarity with municipal bylaws, BC construction regulations, and industry standards.
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
