Senior Mechanical Estimator

Our client is search for a Senior Mechanical Estimator who is responsible for generating precise and timely full-cost estimates for mechanical projects (HVAC, Sheet Metal, Piping and Plumbing), including materials and labour. Key responsibilities include maintaining a comprehensive list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, and analysing blueprints, specifications, and proposals to deliver accurate and profitable mechanical estimates, with projects potentially exceeding $5M. This role involves preparing requests for quotations, obtaining competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, and drafting proposals while meeting specialist requirements as needed.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Prepare cost estimates for a variety of mechanical projects, including conceptual, design-build, and general tender work, regardless of size or complexity.
  • Independently calculate costs for materials, labor, and equipment based on proposals, plans, and specifications, including project closures.
  • Review data to determine material and labor needs, creating detailed itemized lists.
  • Compute cost factors for management purposes, such as planning, organizing, scheduling work, bidding, vendor selection, subcontracting, and cost-effectiveness analysis.
  • Draft requests for quotations to obtain competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to secure support and commitment for cost estimates.
  • Utilize estimating software (e.g., Accubid Classic or Anywhere) for accurate cost calculations.
  • Recommend improvements to cost-estimating procedures for increased efficiency.
  • Analyze current practices and pricing to identify cost-saving opportunities and process enhancements.
  • Work with the Chief Estimator to establish project indirect costs and overheads for each estimate.
  • Mentor and support junior estimators, assisting with quantity take-offs and quotations.
  • Perform additional duties as required to achieve company goals.
WHAT YOU NEED TO JOIN OUR TEAM
  • A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of 5 years of mechanical estimating experience in HVAC, Sheet Metal, Plumbing and piping systems.
  • Experience developing mechanical service quotes/estimates in a similar role.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical drawings and the ability to interpret schematics and P&IDs.
  • Familiarity with industry practices, mechanical trade scope, and Bid Depository regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Accubid Estimating Software.
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the capability to manage multiple competing priorities and timelines.
