Title: Senior Mechanical Technologist/Engineer
Location: Abbotsford, BC or Edmonton, AB
Salary: Up to $120K (dependent on experience)
Our client, a well-established and respected multi-disciplinary engineering firm, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Technologist/Engineer to join their growing team in either Abbotsford, BC or Edmonton, AB. With a strong track record of delivering high-quality engineering and design solutions for development projects across Canada, this firm is looking for a dynamic professional to help drive projects forward while also mentoring junior team members.
This role is ideal for an experienced individual who can balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on technical work. The successful candidate will have the ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and remain actively involved in engineering production. Strong business development acumen and the ability to foster client relationships are essential, along with the technical expertise to deliver innovative and efficient design solutions.
Key Responsibilities: - Lead and oversee the design of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection, in compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Work independently to produce contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction.
- Utilize Revit MEP and AutoCAD to develop detailed mechanical designs.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines to ensure seamless project execution.
- Conduct load calculations and generate energy models to support project needs.
- Review contractor submittals and shop drawings for compliance with construction documents.
- Perform site visits and surveys to assess project needs and verify design accuracy.
- Act as a mentor to junior team members, providing training and guidance to enhance their technical skills.
- Drive business development efforts, leveraging industry knowledge and networks to identify new project opportunities.
- Take initiative in problem-solving, providing solutions-oriented thinking to complex engineering challenges.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of BC and Alberta building codes and industry best practices.
Qualifications & Experience: - 5-7+ years of experience in a consulting firm, specializing in mechanical design for buildings.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering; P.Eng designation or working towards P.Eng is preferred.
- Strong technical expertise in HVAC, plumbing, heating, and cooling systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
- In-depth knowledge of local plumbing and building codes, NFPA, NECB, ASHRAE standards.
- Experience with energy modeling and load calculation tools (e.g., IES Virtual Environment, HAP, Trace700, EE4, HOT2000, eQuest, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving ability with a proactive and entrepreneurial mindset.
- Ability to train and mentor junior engineers and technologists.
- Exceptional communication skills with a client-focused approach to business development.
