Our Client is a well-established and growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor based in Yorkshire. They deliver high-quality infrastructure, drainage, and groundworks packages for some of the UK’s leading national housebuilders, as well as a growing portfolio of industrial and commercial developments. Known for a collaborative culture and consistent project delivery, they are now seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team and play a key role in the continued growth of the business.
Role Overview:
They are currently recruiting for an experienced and commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee a portfolio of groundwork and civil engineering projects across Yorkshire. This is a pivotal role within the business and offers a clear route to Commercial Manager for the right candidate. You’ll be responsible for leading all commercial aspects of projects, from tender stage through to final account, and will be a key point of contact for both clients and the wider delivery team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Full commercial responsibility for a range of residential and industrial groundwork projects
- Preparation and submission of monthly valuations, variations, and final accounts
- Managing and mentoring junior and assistant quantity surveyors
- Procurement and administration of subcontractor packages
- Cost reporting, forecasting, and risk analysis
- Ensuring compliance with contract terms (JCT/NEC or client-specific agreements)
- Attending client meetings and site visits regularly
- Identifying and implementing value engineering opportunities
- Supporting dispute resolution and contract negotiations as required
- Working closely with the Operations and Commercial Manager on strategic commercial planning
Candidate Requirements: - Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role, ideally within civil engineering or groundworks
- Strong understanding of residential groundwork packages and industrial infrastructure schemes
- Solid contractual knowledge, including JCT and NEC contracts
- Confident communicator with excellent negotiation and leadership skills
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and commercial management tools
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Yorkshire
- Self-motivated, methodical, and commercially focused
