Position: Civil Superintendent (Underground)
Location: Calgary, AB
Reports to: General Manager of Underground
Role Overview:
The Underground Superintendent oversees the daily operations of the Underground department, managing field staff and foremen to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities: - Review job files to understand original estimates, plans, and specifications.
- Allocate resources to meet construction schedules, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Coordinate scheduling updates.
- Train, mentor, and develop team members through bi-annual performance reviews.
- Direct work activities alongside Foremen to ensure project completion.
- Ensure proper requisitioning, maintenance, and return of company tools and support equipment.
- Attend project closeout meetings to ensure successful project completion.
- Document pertinent project information, including weather, site conditions, employee issues, and scope changes.
- Review grade sheets for accuracy.
- Order materials and supplies using purchase orders or requisitions.
- Coordinate document inspections with the Project Manager, including sign-offs from prime contractors, owners, and consultants.
- Review and approve electronic timesheets submitted by Foremen daily.
- Ensure safety of oneself and co-workers on work sites, report incidents and near misses, and participate in investigations.
- Assist other employees as needed.
- Participate in toolbox and safety committee meetings as scheduled.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and standards of workplace behavior.
- Comply with company health and safety manual and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
Qualifications: - Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in underground utilities installation, as General Foreman or Superintendent.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, schedules, and cost reports.
- Thorough understanding of construction procedures and safety practices.
- Extensive knowledge of equipment utilization, operation, and maintenance.
- Certifications: Construction Safety Training System (CSTS), Ground Disturbance, Valid First Aid, LSE, Prime Contracting, and PHISM.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong work ethic with demonstrated dedication and reliability.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
