250 construction jobs created as Crown Square gets green light

Date: 12 Apr 2019

Galway City Tribune – The €200 million development of the abandoned Crown Square site in Mervue has been given the green light by Galway City Council – with work to begin this Summer on the office and hotel element, creating up to 250 construction jobs.

Developer Pádraic Rhatigan of JJ Rhatigan has been given the go-ahead to build five office blocks on the site, ranging from three to six storeys in height, and a five-storey 175-bedroom hotel.

Mr Rhatigan told the Galway City Tribune that he is ready to begin construction within months – and said he looks forward to breaking ground on what will ultimately be a base for up to 3,500 employees.

A number of expressions of interest have already been forthcoming for the office element of the development – with particular interest from companies based in Dublin seeking to expand beyond the capital.

Mr Rhatigan said he aims to have construction work completed within three years, adding that this development would be a driver for economic growth, not only in Galway, but across the region.
