Laing O’Rourke has soared to the top of the March contracts league after securing a major Welsh hospital project.
Work will start in August on the £350m super hospital on the site of the former Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital outside Cwmbran.
According to construction information specialist Glenigan, the win also lifts Laing O’Rourke to second place in the annualised 12-month league behind Morgan Sindall, which has led the rankings for six months on the back of swelling orders across the regions.
Among the other big orders during March, Mace secured a £150m residential job for developer Lodha in London’s Mayfair district at 1 Grosvenor Square.
Vinci has signed a £90m contract for a student accommodation scheme for the University of Hull while Bowmer & Kirkland picked up Crewe’s £100m town centre regeneration project for Cheshire East Borough Council and a £100m office scheme in Manchester for Barings Real Estate.
Sheffield City Council also confirmed BAM as main contractor for the first phase of its £480m Sheffield Retail Quarter development.
