The future of Dublin’s famed Moore Street has been unveiled as its regeneration is set to get underway.
Architect drawings of how the historic 1916 site is going to look have been released, and it completely transforms the area which is steeped in Dublin history.
The plan is part of a complete transformation of the O’Connell Street shopping district and will see the 1916 Terrace and other building developed to include a mix of housing, retail and heritage.
The Save 16 Moore Street Committee has welcomed the development after 50 years of neglect and dereliction in the area.
PRO Patrick Cooney said: “Moore Street famed for its’ street market traditions and 1916 Rising connections is set to become the cities’ major construction/ heritage project.
“The plan has been commissioned by campaigners and 1916 relatives from a team of leading Irish architectural firms, planners and consultants. They believe the master plan will not only reverse decades of official neglect but also act as a catalyst for the future regeneration of the citys’ Northside.
“The plan also fully meets the recommendations of Minister Darragh O’Briens Advisory Group on the development of the Moore Street Battlefield as a historic cultural quarter.
“Moore Street has suffered over 50 years of neglect, dereliction and bad planning decisions. More recently in 2016 it was the subject of a successful High Court action taken and won by the Save Moore Street Campaign.”
